Optional Barcelona Extension

The following extension program is not sponsored by AMS/Allied and is planned exclusively for AMS/Allied participants.

Morning Tour ... Your visit to Barcelona begins with disembarkation from your ship and a morning sightseeing tour. Highlights include the "Barri Gotic" (Gothic District) ... where the city originated with its Roman walls and where the main public buildings are located, (Town Hall, the Catalan Government Palace, & the Cathedral ... a Gothic masterpiece began in 1298 and finished in 1454). Continue over the "PASEO DE GRACIA," considered by many to be the "Champs Elysees" of Barcelona. On MONTJUIC, the hill overlooking the city centre, view the main group of the 1992 Olympic sites, and enjoy panoramic views of Barcelona from the "Mirador de l'Alcalde."

A brief stop is made at Gaudi's masterpiece, the LA SAGRADA FAMILIA. This unfinished cathedral with its magnificent spires was initiated by Gaudi and has been has continually dogged in controversy since his death in 1926. The tour will conclude at the hotel.

Free Time ... Allows you the opportunity to discover the many attractions of this fascinating city. There are many museums for the art lovers, including the Museum Picasso, the Museum of Catalan Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Miro Foundation... all worthy of a visit. Or Escape from Barcelona for a visit to Montserrat with its mountaintop monastery & the sites top attraction, the Virgin of Montserrat.
